Charlotte Howar Skater of the Year

2023 Winner: Harper Breitenfeld

Charlotte was the first BFSC member to earn the right to skate at Regionals.  Presented annually to the BFSC member who demonstrates the greatest athletic achievement for the Club year.  In November 1961, 10-year-old Charlotte Howar, daughter of Mrs. John Howar was the first Alabamian to participate in a USFSA competition when she went to the EGL Championships in Cleveland, OH.  Coached by Rosemary Reid, Charlotte earned the right to compete by passing three tests – a preliminary test in Indianapolis, her second in Champaign, IL and the third in Birmingham that fall.  Skating for only two years, Charlotte trained 3-4 hours each day with a day off on Saturday.  The award is given on the basis of a point system established in 2004.

Leslie Burnett Award for Excellence in Ice Dance

2022 Winner: Savanah Worth

The Board created this award in memory of someone very special to the Club.  Leslie Burnett stopped by the Awards banquet after having completed an awesome 1st year at Auburn to share huge hugs and smiles, and to make plans to skate with everyone over the summer and work on her Gold dances.  Only days later, we lost her to a tragic accident.  Leslie Burnett showed a great passion for ice skating and ice dance and brought a smile to everyone who skated with her.  This award is presented in her memory to the ice dancer who has achieved the most points in ice dance testing and competing.
